Step One – paper between our fingers; canceled stamps

This is a call to all who know me – or even those who don’t. If you are a person who still longs for handwriting, who savors the ragged edges of cards handled by countless strangers on their way from friend to you, who knows that the things we write are somehow always different than those we say or type – if you crave letters penned with you and only you in mind, then send me your mailing address. I will happily scrawl on bar napkins, torn maps, dinner receipts, and lost pieces of homework and place them in the mail to you, complete with exotic lettering and indecipherable smells. Please email me.

  1. I am in desperate need of mail, marooned as I am in the wilds of main with only trees, mimes, and the occasional demoliton derby for entertainment. My wanderlust will turn jealsous, elated somersaults at the thought of Lara Lee eating steamed dumplings and speaking a kodiak-tinged Mandarin on filthy backstreets where China rolls on and on for millenia . . . do write.

  2. Have a great birthday Lara Lee. Let us know how you celebrate in your far flung land and style.

  3. I expect long drunken letters written on cheap foreign pornography.

  5. In addition to the tactile pleasure of handwritten letters, there is a luscious rhythm that ensues from postal correspondence, befitting of your journey East.

  6. We’ve found our way into the Middle, and I’m looking forward to hearing your stories of your voyage East. Let’s trade letters (I can’t promise exotic papers (perhaps a corn husk?)) and swap tales of student adventures.

  7. I’m sure one scaring the locals in high heeled thigh high black leather boots has more pressing business than writing letter after personal letter. Enjoy! But I will check out the blog from time to time.

  8. Oh my goodness! I didn’t know how much I missed nice pieces of mail until you said that! You write well and now I hope I will get a filthy peice of lost homework in the mail someday with a word from you. You are pretty. Enjoy the journey!

  13. 五月是遥远的和与你爱的那些和朋友分开。但是只要月亮发光,你将及时彼此共享那同样的瞬间并且认为,在你的梦想中。 (One may be far away and separated from your loved ones and friends. But as long as the moon shines, you’ll be sharing that same moment in time with each other, in your dreams and thoughts.) Or at least, that’s what I think I said.

But just in case we’re not together in dreams and thoughts…letter writing remains one of my favorite events. letters written will be cherished and responded to.

  14. Better late than never. My own life and the transitions in it have been all-consuming, but I’m finally catching up with yours.

I share your love of words on paper. I will shower you with the funniest, sweetest, most awkward Korean letterpaper I can find.
